Car Camping
After two day hikes - as well as some time in the classroom - the crew was off for a three-day camping trip. We camped at a trailhead to the west side of the Pecos Wilderness on Borrego Mesa.
The area was burned the year before, but flames swept around and left the campground unscathed. It was beautiful.

While there, I had the students cook their own food on a camp stove. I also taught axe safety and had fire-building competitions as well as offering a hands-on introduction to orienteering.

With the exception of one minor incident on the drive out - the trailer flipped - this camp was very successful. We looked forward to our backpacking trip the following week.
