Mount Whitney
July 2009
After climbing Mount Rainier and hanging out with Chris on Whidbey Island for a few days, I flew to Reno to meet Aaron. We found each other at the baggage claim, hopped into a rental car, and drove on down to Lone Pine, California.
We had agreed we did NOT want to take the standard trail up Whitney. It is way too crowded and a day-hike (although many floks make it an overnighter or even a two-night excursion) was too short to justify all the travel. Instead, we would backpack in for two days, bag the peak, then backpack out over either one or two days - depending on how we were feeling.
Aaron put together a nifty map of the trip - complete with photos - using GoogleMaps (all the first person in the descriptions are from his perspective). Check it out (here is an alternative link)!!
I'll put more up here later.
